EVALUATING ROAD SAFETY PRACTICES AND KNOWLEDGE AMONG INDIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract

Background: Developing countries, such as India, bear a burden of road traffic accidents that result in unnatural fatalities,
primarily among those aged 15 to 40, who are a country's most productive demographic. Medical students, as the
community's younger generation, may play an important role in raising awareness of road safety measures to reduce RTAs
(road traffic accidents).
Aim: to examine the use and awareness of road safety measures among Indian medical students.
Methods: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study of 600 medical students, 266 male and 334 female, was conducted
to assess their knowledge and practice of road safety measures using a pre-designed structured proforma. The data
collected were statistically examined.
