Abstract

Utilization of natural materials as an alternativemedicinein warding off diseases is increasingly in demand. This study aimed to determine the secondary metabolitecontent, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, fatty acid contentand amino acid content ofthe extract of Sterculiatragacanthafruit. Sample wasevaluated for phytochemical content, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, fatty acid content and amino acids. The results indicatedthat the phytochemical compoundsof papaya woton fruitsimpliciaincludeflavonoid, tannin, hydrolyzable tannin, phenolic, polyphenolsand saponin. The extract of methanolhasa strong antioxidant activity while that of n-hexane has apotential as antibacterial to Vibrio alginolyticus.The main fatty acids of Sterculiatragacanthafruitextractweremethyl palmitate and methyl tricosanoate while the main amino acids wereL-Arginine, L-Prolineand L-Glutamic acid.
