Abstract

Background: Pregnancy termination in the second trimester or later is a very difficult scenario that is linked to a three to
five-fold increased risk of maternal morbidity and mortality, especially in females with damaged uteruses.
Aim: The purpose of the current study was to compare the effectiveness of employing an intracervical foley's catheter
with extra amniotic PGF2 alpha instillation vs an intracervical foley's catheter with PGE1 vaginal pills for pregnancy
termination starting in the second trimester.
Methods: Eighty subjects were evaluated in this study, and they were split into two groups of forty each based on
inclusion and exclusion criteria. Group I subjects were induced using a Foley's catheter balloon with a vaginal PGE2
tablet, while Group II females were induced using a Foley's catheter balloon with additional amniotic instillation of
PGF2α. To create a 2 ml solution equivalent to 0.50 mg PGF2α, an injection of 5 mg of 1 ml PGF2α diluted with 19 ml
of normal saline was administered every hour until 48 hours/expulsion. From induction to expulsion, the subjects were
evaluated.
