TRANSFUSION-TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS IN BLOOD DONORS FROM INDIAN BLOOD BANK

Abstract

Background: In situations involving trauma, surgery, and long-term care, blood transfusions are essential. It does, however, 
provide a significant risk of spreading diseases like syphilis, HIV, hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and malaria. These infections 
typically start in asymptomatic donors and spread through tainted blood after transfusion and incorrect management.
Aim: The goal of the current study was to assess transfusion-transmitted diseases in blood donors from an Indian blood bank 
in hindsight.
Methods: The study evaluated 70,160 blood donors in retrospect. By thoroughly screening the subjects in accordance with 
national regulations, it ensured safe blood transfusion and evaluated and screened all contributions for TTIs (transfusion-
transmitted illnesses).
