MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING EVALUATION OF KNEE INJURIES IN PATIENTS PRESENTING WITH ACUTE KNEE TRAUMA: A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

Background: Knee injuries are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries encountered in orthopedic and
emergency practice. Magnetic resonance imaging provides excellent soft tissue resolution and plays an important role in
evaluation of ligamentous, meniscal, and osseous injuries.
Aim: To evaluate the magnetic resonance imaging findings in patients presenting with acute knee trauma.
Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted in the Department of Radiology during 2021
among 124 patients presenting with acute knee trauma. All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the knee
joint using standard imaging protocols. Ligamentous injuries, meniscal tears, bone marrow edema, joint effusion, and
associated abnormalities were evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square test. A p-value less than 0.05
was considered statistically significant.
