CYTOMORPHOLOGICAL SPECTRUM OF CERVICAL PAP SMEARS AMONG WOMEN ATTENDING A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL: A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer remains an important cause of morbidity among women, particularly in developing 
countries. Pap smear examination is a simple and cost-effective screening tool for early detection of cervical epithelial 
abnormalities.
Aim: To evaluate the cytomorphological spectrum of cervical Pap smears among women attending a tertiary care hospital.
Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted among 152 women undergoing cervical 
cytological examination. Conventional Pap smears were collected, stained using Papanicolaou stain, and reported 
according to the Bethesda System 2014. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.
