EVALUATING VITAMIN D AND URIC ACID LEVELS IN GLAUCOMA PATIENTS

Background: An eye disorder called glaucoma is characterized by inflammation and oxidative stress that harm the
optic nerve. Increased intraocular pressure, or IOP, is typically associated with it. Uric acid (UA) is an antioxidant that
scavenges superoxide and nitrogen radicals in plasma, while vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin with anti-inflammatory
qualities.
Aim: The purpose of this study was to measure the serum levels of vitamin D and uric acid in individuals with
glaucoma who were of Indian descent.
Methods: Ninety participants with a verified diagnosis of glaucoma were compared to ninety controls who were
matched for age and gender. Serum uric acid and vitamin D levels were measured in each individual using the
enzymatic technique and radioimmunoassay (RIA), respectively. A statistical analysis was performed on the collected
data.
